September’s Title:

A Novel Idea - Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki And His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami.

Synopsis: “Tsukuru Tazaki had four best friends at school. By chance all of their names contained a colour. The two boys were called Akamatsu, meaning ‘red pine’, and Oumi, ‘blue sea’, while the girls’ names were Shirane, ‘white root’, and Kurono, ‘black field’. Tazaki was the only last name with no colour in it. One day Tsukuru Tazaki’s friends announced that they didn’t want to see him, or talk to him, ever again. Since that day Tsukuru has been floating through life, unable to form intimate connections with anyone. But then he meets Sara, who tells him that the time has come to find out what happened all those years ago.”

Great News!

The Marrow Thieves

One corridor, reading together.

One Book, One Corridor is presented by Pemberton & District Public Library and Whistler Public Library  in collaboration with Armchair Books. This year, we’re welcoming the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre as an event partner as well!
The initiative is designed to unite the communities over a good book.

This year, we have chosen to read The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline.

Synopsis: In a future world ravaged by global warming, people have lost the ability to dream, and the dreamlessness has led to widespread madness. The only people still able to dream are North America’s indigenous population – and it is their marrow that holds the cure for the rest of the world. But getting the marrow – and dreams – means death for the unwilling donors. Driven to flight, a 15-year-old and his companions struggle for survival, attempt to reunite with loved ones, and take refuge from the “recruiters” who seek them out to bring them to the marrow-stealing ‘factories.

Pemberton event: Thursday, October 25, 7 p.m. at Pemberton & District Public Library.

Whistler events: Two chances to attend on Wednesday, October 24! 1 p.m. at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre or 7 p.m. at Whistler Public Library.

Copies of The Marrow Thieves can be borrowed from the libraries or can be purchased from Armchair Books in Whistler at a 15% discount.
